The Palm Beach County League of Cities, Inc. is pleased to announce the call for 2008 William A. Cruickshank Scholarship applicants! Winning recipients will be recognized with scholarship checks at a general meeting luncheon in April. |
Who is |
William A. Cruickshank was a former Boca Raton Councilman and President of the Palm Beach County League of Cities, Inc. from 1973-1974. He was the first full-time Executive Director of the (then named) Palm Beach County Municipal League. |
What is the |
In tribute to Mr. Cruickshank, the League established a scholarship in his name, with Palm Beach County member cities contributing to a fund in order to promote education in the area of public service. Study areas eligible for scholarship participation are: Public Affairs, Political Science, Criminal Justice, Public Safety, Public Administration and Urban & Regional Planning (including engineering associated with these areas). |
Cruickshank |
Scholarship Available: The
Cruickshank Scholarship program provides scholarships of
up to $1,000* for expenses associated with academic
endeavors to qualified high school seniors and expense
stipends for municipal employees pursuing continuing
education in these fields. We've also added a new
category for non-high school, non-municipal employee,
persons in school or training for governmental positions.
Preferential consideration will be given to individuals
demonstrating a dedicated pursuit towards a career in
governmental, public service or public administration, as
evidenced by involvement in a course of study, work and
volunteer service or internships in public, governmental,
community and legislative environments. Scholarship Awards: The Leagues Scholarship Committee reviews all submitted (complete) applications and selects a list of finalists for direct interviews. Upon completion of the interviews, the committee makes the final selection of one or more candidates to be awarded scholarships. The selection and awarding, or not, of scholarships is entirely at the discretion of the committee and their decision is final. The Scholarship Committee has the latitude to adjust the amount and number of our annual scholarship awards. The committee takes both need and merit into consideration. (*The number of Cruickshank Scholarship awards and amounts of each are determined each year by the Scholarship Committee under the policies of the League of Cities.) |
